BATON ROUGE, La. — The No. 11 Florida volleyball team defeated LSU 3-0 Wednesday, its third straight sweep to start the SEC schedule.
The Gators (12-3, 3-0 SEC) downed the Tigers (5-9, 0-3) by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-19.
“Wins on the road are always special,” UF coach Mary Wise said. “In a match where LSU played so well in so many different facets – they challenged us – and it was great to get the win.”
Thayer Hall led the team with 11 kills, followed by 10 from Holly Carlton. Rachael Kramer and Taelor Kellum both pitched in seven of their own. The Monserezs combined for 35 assists – 23 coming from Allie Monserez and 12 coming from Marlie Monserez.
The team as a whole recorded 10 blocks, led by five apiece from Racheal Kramer and Holly Carlton. Allie Gregory had command of the backcourt defense, registering 11 digs on the night.
The Gators are back on the road for a 2 p.m. Sunday matchup with Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Florida holds the 44-0 series advantage, including a 42-0 record under Wise.
Gators to play 2 exhibition games
The Florida baseball team will play USF and Jacksonville in a pair of fall exhibition games, in accordance with a recent NCAA rule change.
The Gators will play USF in Lakeland on Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. The game will be hosted by the Lakeland Flying Tigers – a minor league affiliate for the Detroit Tigers – at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium.
The following week, Florida will host Jacksonville on Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. at McKethan Stadium. Admission is free for the Jacksonville game.
Beginning Aug. 1, Division I collegiate baseball teams are permitted to play two exhibition games during the non-championship segment of the season.
The Gators will begin fall practices Oct. 8. Weekly practice schedules will be posted on FloridaGators.com the Friday before each week.
