  1. I know we didn’t win anyone great, but having two one loss teams ahead of us seams a little biased by the media.. Everyone loves to underestimate and overlook us.. Its ok.. We’re gonna show them this weekend. I expect at least a no 20 after a ky thrashing

    • To be fair, both those 1 loss teams lost to teams that are in the top 11, so they’re going to get more votes than a team who was unranked and beat one of the worst teams in college football. Hard to drop Miami completely out after being ranked #8. That would look really bad for their preseason rankings. That’s ok though, as long as the Gators keep winning, they’ll move up each week until they get to where they need to be.

      • Joe. Charleston Southern University is actually a very good FCS division team. But not a very good Division 1 team. But playing them does illustrate just how silly and unfortunate it is that the NCAA allows FCS teams to play Power 5 conference teams. That should never happen in my opinion. And I hope AD Stricklin works hard to upgrade the future UF football schedules with nothing but Division 1 opponents. Play UMass. Play Troy. Play Idaho (they are later this year). Play Arkansas State. But no more Charleston Southerns and Presbyterians. Thank you.

        • Practically so, now tell that to the “experts” who sit on their pedestals and make these sometimes insane pronouncements. IMO, there’s just as much real football savvy right here on this forum….but in any event it doesn’t make good sense to even do a Top-25 until the end of the 3rd week.

    • using the game against charleston southern as an argument to rank florida ahead of other top 25 teams seems WAY MORE biased than the poll itself. right now the ranking is more based on brand name than what is essentially a glorified scrimmage. that being said, i agree a win against what should be a decent kentucky team would be a good reason to rank florida a little bit higher.

      • Completely disagree. We got ranked because of the way we beat CSU. It takes a special defense to not only shutout an opponent but to also limit them to so little offense in the 1st half(they looked at the starters). They then added to that how easily the starting offense scored against a good FCS defense(and noted that the backup QB’s after Trask’s TD werent allowed to throw any passes). You will be surprised later this season how many games CSU will win in the FCS, they are actually a very good team at that level. That QB will score alot on most defenses. I actually think they underrated us when compared to other top teams and how they played against their cupcakes! I only wish Mullen had allowed our backup QB’s to throw the ball a little to keep the 1st downs coming then CSU never would have scored, he needs to remember that he also has to play for ranking.

  2. Both lost to ranked teams. I don’t know why people are so hard on Michigan- they lost to a teamed ranked above them by one TD. And there are actually three one loss teams ahead of us. They all lost to ranked teams. The polls are always biased towards what the rankings were in the beginning. They aren’t going to drop those teams completely off just for losing a game to a ranked team, they are just going to lower them. If they keep losing, they will eventually drop off while if other non-ranked teams keep winning, they will rise up onto the top 25. We were terrible last year and didn’t deserve to be on the poll in the beginning. One big win against a poor team gets us on the poll at the bottom. That’s more than fair. It doesn’t really matter- if we keep winning, we will keep climbing.

  3. TAKE A LOOK AT THE RANKED TEAMS. The Gators play 4 of those teams in addition to FSU. I agree with Patrick. Just keep winning and the team will keep climbing. Hopefully, they will climb into the SEC championship game and play another school ranked ahead of them. For now, one game per week. Make it 32 straight against KY. The Wildcats have a good running game, but were not that impressive in their 35-20 win over Central Michigan. Still, they will be hyped up.

    • You obviously don’t understand how this works, King James, so I’ll help you out. First, they didn’t play anybody, it was just Auburn so it really doesn’t count as a real game. Consider it a pre-season warm up until they get to the meat of their conference schedule, which by the way, happens to be the PAC-12….which everybody knows is the best, most storied, toughest conference ever to grace the gridiron. Secondly, the score must have been an anomaly of some sort, because the head coach at Washington not only walks on water but gives policy to God in has spare time. What’s the matter with you son? You really got to start thinking like a sports writer! Or, at least, ESPN. Glad I could help. 👀

  4. When will people figure out that Mark Richt sucks? He actually made Ogreloon look like a super star of the coaching world, and I am willing to bet the wheels come off of that wagon with the progression of the season. It was good for the SEC and all that, but I just can’t understand how some of these people can watch so much football and never see a game.

      • I disagree….Richt doesn’t really suck…..but Miami has a bit further to go before they can claim to be back. In fact, more than a bit, and if Miami and FSU really expect that it will be some sort of playoff elimination game when they meet this fall — they are even more delusional than the sports writers who came up with that nonsense after they both lost their first game rather decidedly.

        • I disagree, we saw Richt for years at GA have top 5 classes every year and he could never be great. He is a good x’s & o’s coach but he will never be a great coach because he doesnt know how to motivate his talent (recruits)!

        • Gator 6…Suck is probably a hard word to apply, but he is overrated IMO. He will get you to the door, but actually going through it is another question. I too have tried to tell the cats I know that are UM guys this, but they were punch drunk with the tie wearing guy from Temple…LOL. Richt comparatively is Filet Mignon, while Al Golden was Spam…so they are disillusioned…lol

        • Richt will get you 10 wins most seasons, but he’s going to lose at least 1 game to a team he has no business losing to that completely destroys all hopes for a championship. Look no further than the loss to 4 win Pitt last season when they were undefeated and ranked #2. You can actually go back and look at every season for the last 17 years and find one such game. If Cane fans are happy with winning 10 games a year and never hoisting a national title trophy, then they’ve got their man. My guess is it won’t take them 15 years to figure out his ceiling like it took UGA fans. I’m guessing he’ll only last 4-5 years if he keeps this up.

  5. Just a side note in the apparently never ending search for respect….just a modicum is all we’re seeking……but the AP write up to accompany the poll in this morning’s paper slobbered all over itself to make a big deal out of South Carolina being ranked #24, and didn’t even bother to mention Florida being ranked at all. I checked, sure ’nuff, there we were……but not even acknowledged in the story.

Maybe there’s something to “fake news” after all.

  6. How UF plays against UK will be an indicator for their improvement this
season. This is a marathon not a sprint. I think most UF fans
want to see steady improvement. The gator football program will not
win all of its games this year. Training, discipline, recruiting and
good coaching will make this program great again.

  7. The SEC has HALF its conference RANKED TOP 25, and in only the 2nd week. Which is, unfortunately, why the league (after it EATS ITSELF up in league play), won’t be as ”represented” in the end of the year’s rankings.
But for one weekend, if my math is correct ( I was more of an English & History guy, so), “SEC, SEC, SEC! It just means MORE!”

    • GI, that has been going on ever since I can remember, and I’ve been an SEC fan for about 58 years. In the old days, when there was apparently only one conference (Big 10) and everyone else was an afterthought, it used to drive me crazy and still does to some extent….but you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way. There is a lot of parity among the Power-5, true enough, but the SEC remains on top because of the competition within the conference….no doubt.

      • GI & 6 I grew up 30 miles south and used to have to listen to the games on WRUF then Rock 104 actually 103.7 now Country. Couldn’t even get the games on TV for years. 6 is right the only games on were BIG10 and Notre Dame of which I had no interest. Also this made a lot of people (me at least) resent the BIG10 and unless it is to our advantage want them to lose every weekend. Killed me that Michigan has beat us all 4 times we met and I was at three of those. GI that is true about eliminating each other but that means whoever is still standing is a bad ass team. One of the reasons I hope the playoff goes to 8 teams. It could mean that 2-3 of the best teams get in may be from the same conference. When they put the SEC together and set up our current system it set us up to be a monster in competition Last Man(team) Standing. All the other conferences have been trying to match this model. Before the SEC set up the current system only Alabama and a few others occasionally made the news. When the BCS (15 year)came along and the SEC has the most appearances in the big game 11 winning 9 (7 in a row) with 5 teams. The Big10 3 appearances with 1 team who won 1. The BIG 12 had the second most with 7 and won 2 with 3 teams. I think the latest changes to the playoff were an attempt at parity for the other conferences. There are cycles and maybe it was just timing the SEC did what it did. But the gauntlet the conference runs is what makes us.

        • Gator65, I remember when ESPN 1st started, and many of the pre-ESPN T.V. games were ”Ohio State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, etc…” That is why I, personally, am SO PLEASED to see half the SEC ranked in the Top 25 today.
And while I remember some of the old T.V. days, not for as many years that you all (Gator-6) did perhaps, but I remember what it was like ”before ESPN, SEC Network, etc…” And I hated them! Also, I remember ”ROCK 104”, and I’ve never understood why a school based radio station, like WRUF, would go ”Country music.” But what do I know?!?!?

          • GI me neither on RUF. I like country just not a lot of the new stuff. I like rock too just mostly old stuff. If it weren’t for cable we’d AOL still be watching BIG10 knowing we err better but the networks wouldn’t show it. Even is Spurrier days it was at times hard to find them on tv. With the internet now we can all talk football. Remember letters to the column editor. How the world has changed. GO GATORS 🐊 play with the hearts of champions! Bring home the victory.

        • What do you think about 8 teams, conference champions from the 5 Power-5 conferences, 2 conference champions from Group of 5, and 1 at large? You win your conference, you get to the playoffs, except for the at large team. What could be more fair?

          • As long as the at large is not some team that doesn’t belong to a conference i think that would be great. Some conferences wouldn’t deserve it but it would be the best shot at crowning a champion.
