Eagles tight end Trey Burton made a key block on a fourth and goal play as running back LeGarrette Blount ran easily around the edge to score and put the Eagles up 6-3 in the second quarter of an NFC divisional round. He was also very close to blocking a punt as a part of the Eagles’ special teams and Blount’s run was Philadelphia’s lone touchdown of the game and a huge momentum booster for Philly in a gritty 15-10 win on Saturday.
The score helped reassure fans that backup quarterback Nick Foles could drive the Eagles to touchdowns. Next up are the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game.
Burton was targeted just once all game on offense on a play that looked promising, but Foles just overshot him. He will be an unrestricted free agent heading into next year.

Falcons safety Keanu Neal had some big hits and recorded six tackles and a fumble recovery in Atlanta’s 15-10 loss at Philadelphia. He also added a memorable playoff play before the half as he had an interception in his sights but instead saw the ball ricochet off his knee into the arms of Eagles receiver Torrey Smith. Some are hailing it as “the immaculate kneeception.”
It was in fact embarrassing for Neal and Foles as it was the longest pass Foles had completed to a wide receiver since taking over for Wentz four games ago. That catch was part of a drive that lead to a field goal that boosted the Eagles going into halftime. Nickelback Brian Poole made some plays for Atlanta’s defense and recorded three tackles in the loss.

Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. recorded one tackle and one pass deflection in Jacksonville’s 45-42 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday. The Jags will move on to face New England in the AFC Championship with a chance to play in its first Super Bowl in franchise history. Steelers cornerback Joe Haden made four tackles and had one pass deflection in a losing effort for Pittsburgh.
Patriots running back Mike Gillislee was ruled out (knee) in New England’s 35-14 win over Tennessee. Gillislee might have seen some snaps if he were healthy as Rex Burkhead was also ruled out due to injury. On the Tennessee side, there are no former Gators on the Titans roster but the Tennessee organization and its head coach Mike Mularkey decided to part ways on Monday. Mularkey went 20-21 in just over two seasons with the team and the Miami native became the first coach to be fired in the same season he won a playoff game in since Steve Mariucci was canned by the 49ers in 2002. Mularkey played tight end at Florida under head coach Charley Pell from 1980-82.
Side Note: With Jacksonville, Philadelphia and New England all making it to the conference championship round, it will mark the 16th year in a row that at least one former Gator player will be on a Super Bowl roster.
