  1. Gator Basketball on the “Up” eh?

They just lost their third SEC game to yet another average SEC opponent they should have beaten. Win a game, stink up the next one. No consistency. One dimensional offense. Poor game management. That’s on the coaching staff. If Mike White wants to start being consistent he needs to recruit some seriously good big men to be able to balance out his offense and improve his defense.

The loss to UGA last night was, in a word, somewhat embarrassing. Was never happy with the White hire and what’s happening with this team right now is basically what I expected by season three.

White needs to get it together when Egbunu and Stokes get back and start winning consistently and make the Dance, buecause we’re NIT – bound if this kind of play continues.

    • TODD, Sorry you are not a White believer.
      He is a good coach!
Then lack of true center is a problem that teams now know can be taken advantage of.
The only true center bodies have been out with knee recovery.
Tomorrow is Feb 1st and based on what has been said all year they should be back.
It is still being reported that neither are ready. or even doing full contact practice. This is killing this very good teams year.

I wonder if Egbunu is really working hard to return, or if he is sitting it out until he goes to NBA. He is watching these games and knows how much this team needs him.

At the beginning of the year the team basketball IQ was poor. Only CC and EK seem to have any IQ. Team also was playing poor defense and not team rebounding. Both of these are better. Not great but better.

Until we get Egbuno every team will force offense into the paint.
That is proven to be the weak spot.
Did you hear Georgia coach say in time out huddle “no more 3’s, just go to the paint.” Other coaches have been saying the same thing all month.

The book is out on how to beat the gators.

  2. It’s not White’s fault four of his bigs have been sidelined with injuries/concussion issues. I know injuries are part of the game, and honestly feel Coach has done a great job keeping this team playing at a high level. Of course every team knows our weaknesses, but you can’t re-stock a roster mid-season.

Imagine how good this team would be this year with a healthy Egbunu and Stokes. They likely would be top 5 right now, cause they would have offensive AND defensive firepower both high and low. Even WITH their weaknesses, they have still beaten Cincy, Gonzaga, UK AT Rupp, Missouri, A&M (admittedly without some of their starters too), and had big lead on Duke. The Clemson and Loyola losses don’t look bad at all. The Miss and Georgia losses are worse.

With so few bigs, everyone has to pitch in and play more minutes, and I really think fatigue is biting this team in the last 10 minutes of games. Remember White’s preferred style of play is up-tempo, transition. Without fresh legs, we simply can’t run that late in games, when its the other team that SHOULD be getting fatigued.

Even if its the NIT this year, I give White a pass. He cannot make Egbunu want to play or heal any faster. He had the perfect team setup for this year IMHO. Luck plays a part in sports…

Still, its great to be a fan of a school with so many great teams–volleyball in NC game, gymnastics, baseball, softball, w.tennis, S&D, T&F, and lacrosse consistently top 5 caliber, and some of those have legitimate chance to take it all home again this year. Great stuff!

    Go Gators!
