The moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived.

The first early signing period in college football, which gives recruits in the 2018 class an opportunity to lock in a spot and sign early with a university, begins today and runs through Friday.

We’ll be following all the action here, and updating this post with each new signee, so make sure you keep refreshing this page.

12:47 p.m.: Vero Beach High linebacker/defensive end David Reese has signed his letter of intent, giving the Gators 12 signees in the span of 6 hours.

11:57 a.m.: Florida fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief, as four-star QB Emory Jones has signed with the Gators. Jones flipped his commitment from Ohio State, and was considering signing with Florida State and Alabama, but the Gators have emerged victorious in his recruitment.

10:39 a.m.: Carol City defensive back Randy Russell has signed and delivered his letter of intent.

10:30 a.m.: Boca Raton tight end/defensive end Dante Lang has signed his letter of intent. That makes 9 signees for the Gators so far today, and they’re not done yet.

8:25 a.m.: The No. 2 kicker in the nation, Evan McPherson, has signed his letter of intent. With the departure of Pineiro, it’s safe to say he has big cleats to fill.

8:17 a.m.: JUCO mid-year enrollee Noah Banks has signed his letter of intent. He’ll report to campus in just two weeks.

8:03 a.m.: The Gators have received letters of intent from Iverson Clement, Amari Burney and tight end Kyle Pitts.

7:28 a.m.: Mainland safety John Huggins, who committed to Florida just a few days ago, has signed his letter of intent with Florida.

7:25 a.m.: Bainbridge (Ga.) running back Dameon Pierce has sent in his signed letter of intent. He also plans to enroll early at Florida.

7:22 a.m.: The first signed letter of intent is in. Wyoming Valley West (Pa.) offensive lineman Chris Bleich, who flipped his commitment Nov. 29 from UCLA, has signed and faxed in his letter of intent.

7:20 a.m.: Burney, decked in Gators gear, is set to put pent to paper and make it official.

7:03 a.m.: Calvary Christian LB Amari Burney and Rancocas Valley Regional High RB Iverson Clement are expected to sign their letters of intent at 7:10 a.m.

  1. Would Jacob Copeland jump back in if Emory Jones becomes a Gator? It might be too late, but too many great receivers leave FL for Bama. Sure do need him.

  2. well it still not a winner! some average players, no write home to mommy ones, last time we got a n#1 rated kicker he didn’t work out remember Phillips So do not be fooled this no QB sucks he blew it with corral totally that was his mulligan!!! now don’t tell me this is a great class average is what see in all the feedback from the recruiting services !!!!!!!! I hope he rebounds with a better staff hires to focus more on getting better pipelines with hs coaches!!!!!! until then we are average at best not going to make the grade for sec east only when you have other state schools with new coaches out doing him!!! so just look at the facts it It in black and white print so we have to be mediocrity again next year? that really sucks again been a fan over fifty years so Zach don’t tell me bs on your post keep it real thank you merry xmas!!!!o Gators

    • Wow, Leeroy. That’s a lot of things that look like words with a precious few punctuation marks tossed in as decoration. I gather you’re unsatisfied. What I don’t understand is, after 50 years as a fan, you expect a top recruiting class with a new coach coming in after a horrible year for the team. There is no reason to expect 2018 to be great. Likewise there is every reason to expect Mullen to, ultimately, be superior to our last two coaches. Relax and enjoy the ride. It’s just a game.

    • I find it ironic that we demonize the younger generation for their propensity to give up once things get tough. I don’t know how many times we see people labeled as snowflakes.

Well, it seems to me that premature comments like this might be modeling this type of defeatism and personal attacks, so we should not be surprised at the loss of civility in public discourse and the way the younger generation folds under pressure (I am an educator, and I must admit that the tendency for students to give up and drop out is certainly on the rise).

Anyways, Leeroy, I agree with you that we are in a pickle here in Gatorland, but instead of dreaming that Bill Belichick comes down to coach us and that a coach who has only been here for a few weeks would be able to recruit a top-ten class after a dumpster fire season like, I think we should also be realistic and let these people work.

    • Your comments are disproportionate to the quality of this class so far, and we have two more months to go. Wow. We have one of the top QB’s in the country. Guys all over ranked high overall and in their position. Some of the folks out there are real hung up on stars by some recruiting service. My focus has always been on who does the coach target and who are the other schools out there recruiting our guys. When you sign guys that Ohio St. , Mich, FSU , etc want , you are going after quality high schoolers. In any event , the lowest stars we signed so far anyway are 3 stars. We’re not done yet. You make it sound like we got no one . What were you expecting–15 “5” star athletes according to Scout or Rivals? Relax, we’ll be alright.

    • Leeroy – what’s with all the hate? You’re mad that we’re getting beat out by “the other state schools”…which ones? Miami? Sure, but they’re coming off their best season in nearly 2 decades so that’s just sort of the way life works, and it’s what success and a stable coaching situation will get you. But the others? FSU is #44, USF #54, FIU #67, UCF #73, FAU #127…if we had ANY of those rankings people would be burning down the stadium right now. And you claim we can’t trust the recruiting services and their rankings, and barely a sentence later (only separate by your obligatory !!!!!!) said that all the services all say we’re average so it must be true.

Keep in mind the other “hot name” coaches that just started new gigs…Kelly at UCLA #33, Frost at Nebraska #48, Taggert at FSU #44.

To be in the top 15 at this point with a lot of runway left to add more players…if you’re complaining about this you’ll complain about everything. I do hope you have a Merry Christmas because it seems that you need it.

  3. Guys and gals please be advised that Coach Mullen knows what he is doing period. For pete’s sake he just a arrived and took over about a month ago.Emory Jones signed with the Gators.
I can breathe a sign of relief and put my faith In God and Dn Mullen.
We are all lucky that we got Dan Mullen.
    Hussein Eltouni
    Class of 75
    Go Gators

  4. The class looks good. Not bad at all for a new coach called a 3 star recruiter. Now we get to see a coach actually develop players especially on offense. Still plenty of time to get the remaining needs filled by February. Jones coming on board should help some with recruiting. Go Gators!

  5. Very nice start since it’s only 12/20/17 and this many good kids have signed. Getting Jones in at QB, the kind of run/gun that Dan likes to script his offense for, was HUGE. So glad we got Mullen, and even more happy we are out from under the yoke of Mac-Nuss incompetence. GO GATORS!!!

  6. Nice that the Gators just picked up 4* DB Trey Dean. Glad he’s a Gator.

Maybe Graham will add it after he returns from lunch 😉

  7. Great job recruiting so many that can enroll in January; means the students are into books. I have had enough of the negative against Franks! New system, maybe someone that will finally work with him fundamentally. I think our fans forgot that he has raw talent and was a freshman. New S&C coach; some mammoth O-line prospects; If you ever played the game; you could appreciate some adversity and bumps and bruises. Winners stick it out! I am salivating for the moment a Gator team can go through the year without off the field issues. That would be a winning season!

    • @ Ultimate Fan – Emory Jones just signed with us today, you are talking about Franks…Franks doesn’t fit our new system; he was afraid to run most of the time, panicked and when he did, he ran backwards and out of bounds. He doesn’t have the “IT” factor, and I don’t think he will get it. Just saying…But, may the best QB win.

  8. This is a fantastic start to the recruiting season, and it is important to remember this is a start for us…it’s not over like in past years. We signed 15 and have a lot of room for more over the next 6 weeks (don’t know the ceiling on signees this year but likely in the mid 20’s). According to Scout / 247Sports we’re #14 ranked even with the low volume and almost everybody ahead of us is nearly full. They’re mostly in the 20’s already so don’t have many spots left (if any). That means we will be in much better shape to grab remaining recruits, whereas other top teams will have to say “sorry, we’re all full this year”.

  9. Recruit some more big nasties on both sides and a few more big time wide receivers. To be honest you just need one guy who is a threat whenever he touches the ball. A guy like
Powell is aNice dude perhaps but he isn’t a top flight caliber wr.
