There’s a chance the Florida Gators will have only one scholarship quarterback available for the second consecutive game.

As of right now, starter Feleipe Franks is the only healthy scholarship quarterback as the Gators begin preparation for Saturday’s game against arch-rival Florida State.

Notre Dame graduate transfer Malik Zaire, who took over as the starter for the Missouri game three weeks ago, remains day-to-day with a knee injury he sustained in the first half of the South Carolina game. If he does not return to practice by Thursday, he will not play in Saturday’s game.

Slot receiver Kadarius Toney, the No. 2 quarterback heading into last week’s game against UAB, also is questionable after injuring his lower leg last Saturday.

If Zaire and Toney are unable to go, the back-up QB on Saturday will be redshirt junior slot receiver Dre Massey, a former high school quarterback who has not played the position since then.

Massey has been getting reps at quarterback over the past three week.

Two other players — safety Jeawon Taylor (shoulder) and defensive end Jachai Polite (shoulder) — also are day-to-day this week.

  1. Before last weekend’s game, I saw Nick Sproles warming up as a QB. Is there a reason why you don’t mention him as a possibility? I’d rather have someone playing the position who has at least practiced and played as a QB than someone who hasn’t done so in years.

  2. Franks better talk up the O-line because the noles will be hitting till the “Echo of the whistle” to try and take him out. RBs have to establish early to keep the heat off him. Never count out the cheap lick when playing these guys.

  3. I don’t think the Noles are quite as dirty as they were when Andrews coached the D. He actually taught them to play dirty. The scumbag. I can’t forget what Dockett or Crocket did to Ernest Graham. The next week was the SEC championship game and we were without Graham and we got beat. He might have been the difference.
