McElwain experienced a first in the win over Kentucky. He witnessed one of his players, sophomore middle linebacker Vosean Joseph, get called for two personal foul penalties on the same play.

He put a vicious (and high) hit on the tight end coming over the middle, then sprinted to lay the wood on quarterback Stephen Johnson. The hit on Johnson led to his ejection for targeting.

“You know, that’s a first,” McElwain said. “Yeah. Wow.”

McElwain was informed that Seattle Seahawks safety Richard Sherman was called for three personal foul penalties on one play Sunday.

“Really, on the same play?” he said. “Guess I don’t feel as bad.”

  1. The Gators D is really missing Kylan Johnson, who plays well within the system and sticks to his assignments and gaps well. Joseph does not. He has to play with less emotion and more with his mind, but without losing his aggressiveness. What Johnson does.

    • I thought we would be hearing Vosean Joseph’s name a lot this year on defense. Hoping for a Spikes or Siler kind of player. It seems you see him coming late to plays or not being there at all. Hope Randy can coach him up.
